Registration of the residence permit. („Anmeldebescheinigung”)

EU citizens who stay in Austria for longer than three months must register with the competent settlement authority (provincial governor, district authority or municipal authority) within four months of entering Austria in order to apply for a residence permit ("Anmeldebescheinigung").

Costs: 15 Euro federal fee (additional fees may apply).

Attention! The registration certificate and the confirmation of registration are two different documents.

We recommend:

Always document your rotations and free periods in your home country (the exact period, the caring family + signatures, the location for each rotation). In this way, you can avoid any fines in the event of an inspection, the discovery of bureaucratic errors or the absence of a residence permit.

To apply for a residence permit in Austria, you will need the following documents:

  • Application form (available from the competent immigration authority or available online)
  • Notarised copy of a valid photo ID (identity card/passport)
  • Proof of employment from the employer or proof of self-employment as a carer.

These documents must be submitted in person to the competent authority. You acquire the right of permanent residence after five years of legal and uninterrupted residence in Austria. Upon application, you will be issued a certificate of permanent residence.
